Bringing together organisations, individuals, and education in Scotland to support, encourage and inspire the next generation of computing science at school.

Together we act. Together we inspire. Together we change.

OUR AIMS

  1. Encourage pupils to choose Computing Science where it is available to them as an option.

  2. Bring together schools, industry, academia, and other stakeholders to identify what more we can do together to help inspire the next generation into computing science.

  3. Raise awareness of the diverse career opportunities available to young people in the Scottish tech sector.

The uptake of Computing Science at schools has fallen dramatically over the last decade, along with the rapid decline of Computing Science teachers in Scotland and there are now too many schools in Scotland that do not offer the subject

In contrast, Scotland has an exciting digital tech sector with excellent tech courses at college and university, and an enormous amount of goodwill to help inspire the next generation into the world of tech.

We will help utilise that goodwill to drive change. Join our Digital Technology Education Charter We are working in collaboration with the Computing Science Scotland network we believe this charter can not only be a catalyst for change but can also help bridge the gap between organisations and industry.

But this is only the start. By being part of our charter, you will be part of the solution! Join working groups, alongside teachers delivering Computing Science to brainstorm creative ways to bring the subject to life and demonstrate in the classroom why Computing Science should be a subject of choice. Get involved in our annual events and hackathons and help us inspire the next generation of tech talent in Scotland. Working together we can create more inspiring, engaging, and exciting opportunities for all pupils. Every pupil should experience how great Computing Science is, with the ultimate goal of seeing the subject thrive in all secondary schools in Scotland.

OUR CHARTER.

Let’s work together and make change happen.

SUPPORT

Actively support Computing Science at schools, primary and/or secondary.

We know we need to nurture talent from a young age and inspiring pupils early is key. There are many ways that you could support; talks, competitions, company visits, lessons, etc. If you are unsure please reach out and let us help.

PARTICIPATE

Raise awareness of Computing Science.

Take part in our annual #choosecomputingscience campaign. We will provide you with a video and posts you can use on social media. We want to flood social media each year when pupils are making their school choices. To help inform pupils, parents, and guardians of the tech opportunities in Scotland and that Computing Science is a viable, rewarding and exciting career.

COLLABORATE

Knowledge is power.

Join us for our annual event to celebrate the activities that are being done to support Computing Science at schools, reflect on what more we could do, and look for signs of change in SQA statistics. Along with mini events with the aim of bringing together organisations and Computing Science teachers to network and work together to come up with creative ideas on more we can do to inspire the next generation into Computing Science at schools.

We recognise that not everyone will always be able to commit to all three of our pledges. If you can only commit to one just now that is great and we would love your support by joining our charter.

“The more people we equip at school level with a basic level of competence in Computing Science, the more start-ups we’ll eventually produce and the greater the pool of engineers we’ll have available for those start-ups to hire from as they develop.

In a country with a very small population such as ours, this point is of even greater importance.”.
